Hi ,

Now that the dust has settled on the 2023 California legislative session, we wanted to let you know which of our priority bills became law and which we’re going to keep pushing for in 2024.

Nine of our priority bills were signed into law this year and will be transformative in the fight for climate and environmental justice! SB 253 and SB 261 will be monumental worldwide in the fight for corporate climate accountability. And AB 631 will finally hold oil companies accountable for oil spills and leaks.

In addition, SB 337 will create a plan for conserving 30% of California’s land and coastal waters by 2030, and SB 389 will ensure that water rights are fairly distributed to prevent disproportionate usage of this precious resource.

However, there were even more bills that failed that we will be working hard to pass in 2024.

For instance, AB 249 would have required lead testing at all California public schools and SB 252 would have had California’s powerful public pension programs divest billions from fossil fuel investments.

Friend, check out our full list of priority climate, environmental, and democracy bills that became law, and the ones that have been stalled to next year’s legislative session →

It’s important to us at EnviroVoters that our members are kept in the loop about California’s climate and environmental policy progress! Especially now that our sponsored bill — that we’ve been laser-focused on passing for the past three years (SB 253) — is finally law, we’re already starting to look forward to the bills we need to pass next year.

For example, California currently lacks a robust plan for electrifying our buildings and our grid — a problem that would have been addressed with bills like AB 593 (Pathway to Clean Energy Buildings), AB 1176 (Local Electrification Planning), and SB 527 (Neighborhood Decarbonization Program).

In 2024, we will be focusing on passing both these stalled bills and new bills that will advance not only California but also the entire planet closer to climate justice!

Friend, get ahead of the curve on the 2024 legislative session by staying informed on the climate and environmental bills that became law, as well as the bills that failed in 2023 →

Thank you for always staying informed.
