Hi, it’s Jane and Dave.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and throughout both of our careers as a State Senator and a Law Professor, we have made domestic violence prevention and helping abuse survivors a top priority.

At UCI Law, Jane is the Director of the Domestic Violence Clinic and the Initiative to End Family Violence, where she focuses on the multiple oppressions domestic violence survivors face and explores ways that the law can better respond to complex experiences of intimate partner abuse. From her experience representing abuse survivors for over two decades, she sees firsthand the gaps and barriers to safety and justice in the law, and identifies state and federal legislative solutions.

As a State Senator, Dave has introduced and passed multiple bills aimed at strengthening, enhancing, and protecting the rights of those affected by domestic violence and abuse.

This year, we worked together in drafting and championing legislation (SB 290) to grant free access to evidence for domestic violence survivors, which was signed into law by Governor Newsom. Given the significant financial obstacles most abuse survivors experience, this law will allow survivors to seek and receive their evidence of abuse for immediate and long-term safety. We rejoiced last week when Governor Newsom also signed into law another bill Dave authored (SB 741), which protects abuse survivors from litigation abuse and the weaponization of discovery tactics in domestic violence restraining order proceedings.

Supporting domestic violence survivors must be a top priority for our next representative.

Sign on now if you agree that Congress must take further action to address domestic violence. [[link removed]]SIGN ON [[link removed]]
