Your Vote Counts

What to Know: The Texas Public Policy Foundation has launched its Election Integrity project, which will help guard against voter fraud and ballot harvesting.

“Mail-in ballots are particularly susceptible to fraud,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “If Texas is seen as a battleground again in 2020, how many votes might be purchased for the ballot harvesters to reap? It’s urgent that all of us, including law enforcement and elections officials, be on the lookout for improper harvesting of mail-in ballots.”

Highest Court in the Land

What to Know: The U.S. Supreme Court says it will once again decide the fate of the Affordable Care Act, and TPPF attorneys will be on hand to argue the ACA is unconstitutional.

The TPPF take: TPPF represents the individual plaintiffs who have been harmed by the ACA.

“The decision by the Supreme Court to review the challenge to Obamacare brings the case one step closer to finality and Americans one step closer to freedom from a failed and unconstitutional system,” says TPPF’s Robert Henneke. “Obamacare continues to injure millions of Americans like our clients who have lost access to their doctor, suffered from rationed care and had their insurance costs skyrocket.”

Golden Parachutes

What to Know: Katy ISD’s superintendent resigned in disgrace last year, but was given a golden parachute on his way out. His severance package, including cash and benefits, totaled $955,795.72, according to TEA records. That package was so big that it hurt the district financially.

The TPPF Take: It’s time to end the practice of giving golden parachutes to government employees.

“It’s inappropriate to give golden parachutes to government employees under any circumstance, but it’s especially true when scandal is involved,” says TPPF’s James Quintero. “Big changes are needed now. Texas’ severance payment problem cannot be allowed to continue.”
