FDA takes a major step toward removing menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars

In a positive step toward removing menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars from the market, the FDA has sent the menthol and cigar rules to the White House Office of Management and Budget for final review. A swift review and finalization of these rules would be a public health victory for all. Menthol cigarette and flavored cigar use is more prevalent among young people and racial and ethnic minorities, and ending the sale of menthol cigarettes could benefit these groups who have been disproportionately targeted by the tobacco industry.
