Premier Says Construction Sites in B.C. Will be Legally Required to Bring in Flush Toilets
CBC News

This week, the B.C. government announced that flushable toilets will soon be required on job sites with 25 or more workers.

The new legislation follows the release of the B.C. Building Trades "Get Flushed" campaign which seeks to require construction companies to provide toilets and hand-washing facilities connected to sewer systems or portable units with running water on job sites.

Similar requirements were introduced in Ontario in July when the provincial government enacted workplace legislation to increase the number of toilets on construction sites and impose new lighting, privacy, and cleanliness rules.

Read more about the new requirements at CBC News.

New Webinar: Using Fiberglass Construction Products to Meet BC Energy Step Code
(Requirements for Single Family Homes — Cost-optimizing Long-Term Performance)

CHBA BC

While the BC Energy Step Code may seem restrictive or simply adds costs, it in fact offers increased design flexibility. But to capitalize on the opportunity for short-term and long-term savings, material and assembly selection is the key consideration.

This presentation explores a comprehensive and integrated approach to building envelope and window energy performance, with a focus on ways to cost-optimize energy efficiency by using fiberglass windows and fiberglass thermal spacers for exterior insulated walls.

Through a review of the BC Energy Step Code, this presentation will demonstrate how a "building-envelope-first" design approach can help meet emerging Step Code levels as well as offset costs associated with high-performance materials.

Course Details:
  • Date: Thursday, November 30, 2023
  • Time: 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.

CleanBC Residential New Construction Survey — Your Opportunity to Provide Input
BC Hydro

BC Hydro and the Province of British Columbia are inviting developers and builders to participate in a survey to help them better understand the industry's perspective on the energy efficiency of new homes and some of the programs that have supported this, in particular, the CleanBC Better Homes Residential New Construction Program.

This survey is intended for companies that have not participated in the CleanBC program. A separate survey for companies that have participated in the program has already been emailed directly to them.

The survey should take approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and for doing so, you can enter your name in a draw for one of ten $100 gift cards to your choice of Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Starbucks or Tim Hortons.

The survey deadline is November 30, 2023.
