The past few weeks have brought us historic moments from Congress:

The Speaker of the House was removed by the majority for the first time in American history
There’s now only a month until government funding runs out, again…
Now, we’re watching so-called leaders playing political games for personal benefit while serious global conflicts emerge and Americans families are left behind

The time for servant leadership has never been more urgent and our New Politics leaders in the House agree. Here’s what they had to say:

Fellow Marine Corps veteran, Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) spoke to MSNBC:“We have serious business that we need to do and we can't be mired in a protracted Speaker's race. I think there's bipartisan action that we can take today, or early tomorrow, on Israel; a bipartisan resolution as well as providing support so that the military support we provide to Israel doesn't go dry. There are things we need to do that simply cannot happen until we nominate and choose a Speaker of the House.”

Navy Veteran, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ) said:“I’m eager to work with both parties on solutions to bring costs down and make life better for New Jersey families, and to make the House accountable to the needs of the American people instead of right-wing extremists. New Jerseyans deserve better than this dysfunction from the majority.”

Army veteran and Teach for America alum, Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) called for a Speaker who is willing to work across the aisle:

New Politics leaders understand the gravity of this historic moment and they are stepping up, filling the void left by those elected leaders who have abandoned their responsibility to Americans. If you’re behind this mission, add your name here and show your support for a new politics in this nation. [[link removed]]

Thank you for keeping up with our work in these moments.

New Politics--

New Politics supports outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
