friend – what a month it’s been for our campaigns for debt cancellation!
First we had the party conferences. In the run up, thousands of you emailed your MPs – helping make sure that whoever is in government next year, debt cancellation is high on their agenda. To ramp up the campaign even further, we took your message direct to Labour politicians at their conference in Liverpool.
Then, later that same week, the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) gathered in Morocco for their annual meetings.
As the world’s bankers sat down together, hundreds of thousands of us around the world took action in solidarity with the 54 countries in debt crisis. In London, Debt Justice activists protested outside the Bank of England and World Bank offices. In Marrakech, I marched alongside debt campaigners from every corner of the world. By coming together as a global movement we showed the strength of our call for debt cancellation – and increased the pressure on the IMF and World Bank to act.
Events like these are big moments for our campaigns, friend. They are key opportunities to take our demands into spaces where major decisions are made – nationally and internationally. But, though the events themselves, may only last a few days, making the most of these vital opportunities takes careful planning over the long term.
That long term planning unfortunately costs money. And as a small, independent organisation, our strength relies on the commitment of thousands of supporters coming together to power our work. Regular gifts are central to this because – as a reliable form of income – they enable us to plan out – and win – effective campaigns over the long term.
friend, could you set up a regular gift today to make sure we can make the most of the next big moments to win debt justice? It takes just 2 minutes.
