Debt in America: An interactive map
Debt is a sobering reality that affects families and communities nationwide, including 20 percent of young adults.
While credit can be a lifeline during emergencies or a means to pursue education, it can also become a burden that affects not just individuals but entire communities. Young adults between 18 and 24, who are just starting in life, face the challenges of unpaid bills and mounting debt.
Urban updated the Debt in America map, which now displays state-level data on young adult debt. Take a moment to find your state on the map and explore the geography of debt and the differences that can widen the wealth gap.
