Great News! Matching Funds for Kaporos Chicken Rescue! 19 October 2023 Great News! Matching Funds for Kaporos Chicken Rescue! Over 280 lives were saved from NYC Kaporos this year, and it takes a community to make that happen! Between AECK leadership, our Rescue Coordinators, our sanctuary partners, our fosters and volunteer carers, the activists on the ground at Kaporos week, our volunteer transport drivers taking every bird safely to their homes in our nationwide network, and our donors - together we continue to see the largest annual animal liberation in the country get stronger every year. This year, you saw activists “sit in” for hours at a high-tension Kaporos site and WIN the surrender of three critically injured birds. You have seen that our incredible team supervised by Tamerlaine Sanctuary and Preserve has handled the extensive medical needs of more special needs cases than ever. Amongst our survivors were 13 wing amputations, 3 broken legs, multiple deep wounds requiring stitches, many crushed toes, and 7 birds with mobility issues still in rehab. Our medical expenses alone are 40% higher than any prior rescue year. That, along with the extended foster to ensure every bird is negative for avian flu, means that your gifts mean more than ever. Thankfully, a generous supporter will match ever dollar raised by October 24th!! Double your impact with a gift today. Thank you for your unwavering support of these resilient survivors. United Poultry Concerns The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos is a project of United Poultry Concerns. Formed in New York City in June 2010, the Alliance is an association of groups and individuals who seek to replace the use of chickens in Kaporos ceremonies with money or other non-animal symbols of atonement. The Alliance does not oppose Kaporos per se, only the cruel and unnecessary use of chickens in the ceremony.
