Dear Resource Generation Community,
My name is Sahana Mehta and I am the High Net Wealth Program Manager at RG. I’ve been on staff for just over a year, and have been an RG member since 2020. I came to RG as a young organizer with a deep sense of responsibility to dedicate my time, energy, and resources towards social justice. I joined RG as I organized a giving circle focused on caste abolition, where I worked with fellow dominant caste South Asians to mobilize resources towards dismantling caste supremacy. I learned from RG’s methodologies of popular education and peer learning, and was inspired by the transparency RG invites from its members. As 2020 continued, I, like many, grew more and more convinced of the need for RG in our movements. RG has given me new ways to channel my feeling of duty to movements by equipping me with new tools and pathways for organizing to build a more just world.
Over the course of my first year on staff, I have been inspired by my fellow members time and time again. Here are some of the moments that moved me:
-
When members in DC bought an apartment building and created Baldwin House, a new affordable housing cooperative and mutual aid hub in the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Northwest DC.
-
When Margi, Elizabeth, and Emily spoke at the Transforming Philanthropy virtual series and highlighted their work: the creation of a wealth redistribution team of organizers to move inherited wealth to movements, leadership in C4 organizing to build political power, and more.
-
When a cross-class group of over 130 people engaged with RG’s first ever Internationalism Summer School.
Witnessing the power of RG’s membership has motivated me to:
-
Increase my personal membership dues to RG by 10X
- Incorporate more consistent giving to organizations into my giving plan
- Research opportunities to invest in the Solidarity Economy
-
Pursue membership in a Board of Directors for an AAPI gender justice organization to apply my donor organizing to bolster the movements I care about
As we head towards the second half of our Fall Drive and the end of the year, I know there will be many more moving moments ahead. Join us to experience it for yourself, and remember that RG is a membership organization–we drive the work that RG does, and we are primarily responsible for funding and sustaining RG. RG’s impact on movements is clear: organizations like Third Wave Fund, Thousand Currents, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, the Movement 4 Black Lives, and many more have shared the impact RG has had on the movements they are active in. RG membership is a proven strategy for constituents to become committed, emotionally resilient, and leaderful participants in social justice movements. Let’s invest in movements by investing in RG.
