Hamas’ attack killed hundreds of civilians and now dozens are being held hostage. It’s one of the most horrific attacks on the Jewish community in Israel in recent years and it has, rightly, shocked the world and triggered an outpouring of support and solidarity with the victims and their families.

But now the response to this violence is even more violence. Israel's bombing of Gaza is creating a large-scale humanitarian catastrophe, and innocent people, mostly children, are paying the price.

Through its military blockade of Gaza, Israel is maintaining an open air prison of over 2 million innocent people who lack basic human needs like access to clean water, medicine and food. It's part of a system of oppression that underpins Israel's existence and has created a critical human rights crisis.
