MSF demands protection for civilians and healthcare facilities

Dear ,
The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. Hospitals are overwhelmed and barely functioning. Fuel and electricity are running out. There is a lack of medications and medical supplies. Surgeons are operating on patients without painkillers. Drinking water is becoming scarce.
Civilians face a huge risk of death, whether they try to flee or stay in their homes.
For over a week, 2.2 million people—many of them children, elderly, injured, or sick—have faced a massive military attack and complete siege by Israeli military.
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is preparing medical and humanitarian supplies to be sent to Gaza as soon as it is safe and possible. Right now, the situation leaves no respite for patients or medical staff caught in the fighting. The entry of humanitarian aid and the protection of medical workers must be ensured urgently.
MSF continues to call on all parties to the conflict to ensure the safety of civilians and hospitals. The wounded and sick must receive medical care. Medical facilities and personnel must be protected and respected. We must be able to access people in need of medical care and provide humanitarian services. We want an end to this indiscriminate violence and devastating loss of life.
It’s independent donors that allow MSF to continually pivot during emergencies like this one while continuing our work in countries around the globe. In Gaza, Haiti, and Ukraine, our donors allow us to provide lifesaving care, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, or politics.
“Our ability to provide life saving medical aid in an impartial, neutral fashion is being tested like I have rarely seen in all my years in [MSF],” said Avril Benoît, MSF-USA’s Executive Director, during a recent interview. “We’re in a terrible situation where many people are going to die not from the direct consequence of the war and the bombardments, but from all the other issues ... that are making life untenable.”
At least 3,000 people have been killed in Palestine, and over 9,000 more have been injured. In Israel, at least 1,400 people have been killed and over 3,000 injured.
MSF remains committed to providing life-saving medical care to the people affected by this crisis, while responding to multiple emergencies around the world right now. We are calling for safe access to essential supplies like food, water, and medical care.
