Michigan Republicans Resurrect Legal Theory Rejected by Supreme Court ([link removed])
By Rachel Selzer
Here are some recent updates.
* North Carolina Republicans unveiled ([link removed]) new drafts of congressional and legislative maps that heavily favor the GOP. Critically, the maps are not subject to veto by the state's Democratic governor.
* In a win for voters, an Arizona appellate court ruled ([link removed]) that Cochise County is prohibited from hand counting all ballots cast before Election Day in future elections.
+ Hand counting is less accurate, more costly and more time consuming than electronic tabulation. This often leads to a delay in the certification of election results for the entire state. Read more about the process here ([link removed]) .
* In a move guaranteed to cause confusion, the Nevada Republican Party will hold ([link removed]) a caucus separate from the state-run presidential primary next year. Only the caucus results will count towards Nevada’s delegates to select a Republican presidential nominee.
* Two lawsuits challenging Georgia's congressional and legislative maps will head to trial, a federal judge ruled ([link removed]) . The cases argue that the districts are racially gerrymandered and dilute the voting strength of communities of color.
* Galveston County, Texas officials have appealed ([link removed]) a decision striking down the county’s commissioner districts to the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to reinstate the previous map. The district court rejected their request to pause the decision pending appeal.
