John,

When Lt. Col. John Yuill's B-52 was hit by two surface-to-air missiles in the skies over Vietnam, he had a decision to make.

The plane's electricity went out and a wing was on fire. Should he try to limp the aircraft along until he was out of hostile airspace? Or bail the crew out over Hanoi and face certain capture by the North Vietnamese military?

Lt. Col. Yuill chose the latter. And while he sat in a POW camp, the United States Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.

Roe v. Wade was a slap in the face. Lt. Col. Yuill didn't risk his life and sacrifice his freedom for the right to kill unborn children.

On this week's episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we talk with the 85-year-old, highly decorated Air Force veteran about:

  • the Bronze Star winner's heroic service overseas

  • why abortion is a slap in the face to all who have fought for freedom

  • why Lt. Col. Yuill is a single-issue voter--not for foreign policy or military matters, but for life

Greenville, South Carolina

Prayer warriors in Greenville were heroes to not one but two moms on Saturday.

A mother and daughter left the abortion facility after talking with Valerie, the Greenville vigil leader. With teary eyes, "they said they couldn’t go through with it," Valerie wrote.

Not long after that, another car stopped on the way out, and the woman said the exact same exact thing--that she couldn't go through with it.

Vigil participants offered each expectant mother a flyer with local pregnancy help resources as well as a gift box.

"This is what a 40 Days for Life effort looks like when a parish decides to take a full day on," wrote Karen in Modesto.

The Hispanic community at St. Stanislaus Church is covering Mondays at the vigil.

"We stopped by to check on how things were going," Karen wrote. "And this is what we saw--about 20 of them in total! Bravo!"

Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So, too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.

—Luke 10:30-34

Father, we are moved by the lesson of the Good Samaritan, who allowed compassion to influence him more than fear. Give us the same heart. Grant that we may never count the cost of standing up and speaking out for the unborn.
