Dear Beloved Resource Generation Community,
We write to you as we collectively endure the feelings of pain, grief, anger, exhaustion, fear, and more. We mourn all Palestinians and Israelis who have been horrifically killed over the last two weeks and the many years of this violence. We have an urgent window to act to call for an immediate ceasefire and end to genocide and occupation, and we implore you to take one of the actions outlined below alongside the RG community.
We identify the root cause of this violence as systems of colonization and US imperialism and the powerful people who uphold them, and wish for peace and safety for civilians. We know that predominantly Christian white men stand to profit by the feeding of the war machine [[link removed]] and the military industry. We can be bold and proud supporters of the Palestinian people and their liberation, while not condoning the violent tactics of Hamas. We continue to be inspired by the tactics of feminist grassroots Palestinian organizations and movements [[link removed]] who have been organizing against the occupation and towards true safety and security for decades. And we can mourn Israeli lives lost while not condoning the violent tactics of Israel, whose land theft and militarism have been upholding an unjust and inhumane apartheid system for many years.
We remain steadfast in our belief that the Israeli occupation of Palestine must end, and are grateful for the ways that we have seen RG members engage in organizing and resource mobilization to support those living under siege and blockade in Gaza. We see our role as young people with wealth to fund grassroots Palestinian organizations, engage in efforts to undermine US military aid to Israel, and organize the philanthropic sector to support Palestinian human rights. Our members have been sharing resources with each other, mobilizing significant funding for movements, and taking action across the country - including civil disobedience in our nation’s capital [[link removed]] . We are proud to be part of a community organizing towards justice with profound and unwavering determination.
Our partners at Solidaire Action outlined our charge to change philanthropic systems clearly: “The philanthropic sector has done harm to Palestinians and those engaged in solidarity with Palestinians in the ways that it imposes litmus tests on political positions, chiefly around the willingness to talk about Zionism; enshrines the fracturing of Palestinian society in its giving practices; fosters an atmosphere of competition rather than joint action; and has at times eliminated funding due to political pressure.” ( Funding Freedom: Philanthropy and the Palestinian Freedom Movement [[link removed]] , Solidaire Action)
