Friend,
The chaotic gubernatorial election in Georgia last year was a result of a much larger plan – stifling the voices of the young, poor, and people of color at the ballot box.
In the last decade, a conservative Supreme Court majority has decided the following:
- Citizens United v. FEC, 2010: Corporations are people and should be allowed to spend unlimited sums of money to influence elections.
- Shelby County v. Holder, 2013: States with a history of slavery, segregation and Jim Crow laws no longer need federal clearance before enacting new voting laws.
- Rucho v. Common Cause, 2019: Federal courts have no role in reining in partisan gerrymandering.
We need a Senate that will overturn Citizens United, restore the Voting Rights Act, and guarantee equal representation for all Americans. Add your name if you agree.
Our election in Georgia doesn’t just affect the presidential or Senate elections, but also our state legislature that passed this year’s horrific abortion ban which was praised by Mike Pence when he visited our state last week.
Our democracy – that millions of people have given their lives to defend – isn’t working for us, and you can help me change that. Shifting the balance of power on the Supreme Court begins with a Democratic Senate majority and that starts right here in Georgia.
Add your name to stand with me and help defend voting rights for all Americans – I can’t do it without you.
Voting rights are central to my campaign for the Senate. Thank you for standing up for those rights today.
Yours truly,
Teresa
