Dear John,

Plastic food packaging is ubiquitous in grocery stores.

From plastic-wrapped vegetables to plastic water bottles, single-use plastic seems to pack nearly every shelf. This is resulting in a deluge of waste.

Plastic packaging makes up nearly a quarter of all plastic waste sent to landfills nationwide.[1] In order to curb this waste and protect our environment, we're calling on Walmart, America's largest grocer, to phase out plastic packaging.[2] And we need your help, John.

Nothing we use for a few minutes should pollute our environment and threaten wildlife for hundreds of years. But that's exactly what single-use plastic packaging does.

Every day, the plastic packaging that is brought home from grocery stores is thrown away. From there, the plastic waste ends up clogging landfills and littering the environment. With so much pollution in our environment, it's easy for wildlife to choke or become entangled in plastic.

Walmart can make a difference on this issue. As America's largest grocer, Walmart can have a large nationwide impact by reducing its plastic waste. It can also set a positive example for others in the industry to follow.

Walmart has already committed to eliminating unnecessary plastic packaging, but it hasn't set a timeline or released plans of how it will accomplish this pledge.[3] By adding your name today, John, you can help urge Walmart to take the necessary next steps to put wildlife over waste.
