Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.
That’s the situation with House Republicans right now.
First, it was Kevin McCarthy who endured 15 votes before becoming Speaker. He bargained away his power and was booted out by the same extremists he made a deal with.
Then, it was Steve Scalise. He tried making backroom deals to no avail.
Now, it’s Jim Jordan — one of the most fringe members of the Republican Party. He just failed his first House vote with more expected.
The House just took its 16th vote for House Speaker in the last 10 months to no avail. Republicans couldn’t be more divided.
All the while, House business is completely frozen. We can’t work to avert a government shutdown, support our allies, or get to the *real* work the American people sent us to do.
If Republicans can’t even unify on the most fundamental issue — choosing a leader — how can we expect them to properly govern?
The answer is, we can’t.
The dysfunction won’t stop until Republicans choose to move forward in the best interest of our country. Until that happens, we’ll keep calling out their extremism every single vote — and get ready to win back the House majority.
If Republicans continue to choose chaos over governing, we will hold them accountable at the ballot box. Donate $10 now to help us defeat extremism and bring a new brand of leadership to Congress.
