Dear Friend,
The escalating violence in Israel and Gaza has rapidly turned into a massive humanitarian crisis. My colleagues and I are horrified and heartbroken by the attack on Anglican Hospital (also known as Al Ahli hospital) in Gaza City today that may have claimed the lives of over 500 people. At the time of attack, the hospital was full of patients and health workers, with thousands of more displaced families sheltering on the grounds for safety.
Health workers had been risking their lives to work around the clock with little to no supplies, medications, water, and electricity after refusing to abandon their patients. Civilians, health facilities, and civilian infrastructure should never be targets. Please help the people devastated by the violence in Israel, Gaza, and other communities in crisis.
While details are still emerging, Project HOPE strongly condemns this attack and any attack on civilians and health facilities. We call for the cessation of all hostilities, and immediate humanitarian access granted to aid organizations. Accordingly, we have deployed emergency response teams to the region to help deliver aid for survivors of the violence in Israel and Gaza.
In Israel, Project HOPE is working to support hospitals near the southern border to provide medical equipment and supplies, as well as repair medical structures that were damaged in Hamas’ attack. We are also prepositioning medical and relief supplies in Egypt and have mobile medical teams on standby ready to deploy to Gaza as soon as we are able.
