The crisis in the Middle East continues to develop. President Biden will visit Israel on Wednesday, making an unprecedented wartime stop to a Middle East ally as it prepares a ground incursion into Gaza, said Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken made the announcement at an embassy office in Tel Aviv on the heels of a more than 7-hour discussion between US and Israeli officials. While this is happening, Iran continues to rattle their sabre, showcasing perhaps how unhinged Iran truly is. Iran's foreign minister asserts that “If the war crimes against the Palestinians are not immediately stopped, other multiple fronts will open and this is inevitable.” he then continues to say, “the resistance” told him that “their hands are on the trigger” and said that “pre-emptive action” was possible “in the coming few hours” because those leaders would “naturally not allow the Zionist regime to do whatever it wants in Gaza." Asked by the state television news anchor if Iran would enter the war, he said: “Anything is possible. I want to reiterate again that no side can remain indifferent to these crimes continuing.”
The Iranian government has lost its mind. This level of sabre rattling is unprecedented in the 21st century, and frankly, it's frightening.
But, it seems that the whole world is losing its mind, not just Iran. As the Iranian foreign minister spouts off jingoistic rhetoric like a petulant child, Putin continues his illegal invasion of Ukraine, displacing millions of people in addition to killing hundreds of thousands of young men. Simultaneously, China is regularly running intrusive military drills around Taiwan, being provocative and striking fear into the Taiwanese people. China is even becoming confident enough to disrupt our allies' jets on their typical routine, for seemingly no reason.
One has to ask themselves, why is this all happening?
While the reasoning behind specific scenarios can be a bit more complex, we have to zoom out and see why everyone seems to be making a ruckus as of late. Global peace has been a normal state of affairs for the last century after WW2 save for some conflicts here and there, but it’s not always been like this. Humans are actually not very peaceful, we’re pretty violent, historically speaking. The reason for the peace in this last history is chiefly because of two reasons: US hegemony and MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction). With nuclear weapons going no where any time soon, US hegemony is left to be inspected.
The US is in a state of decline.
Our society is visibly degrading before our eyes with rising rates of mental illness, escalating violent crime, and an influx of illegal immigrants. However, it's not just these internal issues; a significant part of our decline is relative. As other countries ascend in terms of power, wealth, and influence, the US finds itself with diminishing relative power, consequently shifting the global balance.
The rise of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) is to blame here. Put together initially by Russia’s Vladimir Putin to challenge the world order dominated by the US, it has been successful and expanding as of late. The BRICS organization is set to expand with the inclusion of six new members, which will officially join the group in January 2024. This expansion is known as BRICS+ and will represent 36 percent of global GDP. The new members joining BRICS include Saudi Arabia, Iran, Ethiopia, Egypt, Argentina, and the United Arab Emirates, marking a notable effort to reshape the world order.
This is bad news for global peace, as the power starts being distributed more equally, states will become emboldened to cause conflict, as they may be backed by a bigger power.
This is what is happening in Israel-Palestine.
Hamas, being a proxy of Iran, sees the power of balance shifting with the induction of Iran into BRICS. And this won’t be an isolated incident, either. As time goes on, things will continue to unravel globally. Things like Azerbaijan attacking Armenia and Iran’s foreign minister wont stop, but will continue and perhaps even accelerate.
It is possible for something absolutely disastrous happens in the Middle East.
It is possible that the Israeli-Palestine conflict could escalate with Hezbollah, a strong paramilitary group in Lebanon north of Israel, could enter the war. And if that happens, they most likely won’t be alone. Syria could get involved and other paramilitary groups in the region, galvanized by the conflict, could throw their hat in the ring. And if it escalates even further, Iran could end up being pulled into the war.
And that’s a disaster.
Iran entering the war would be such a significant event that it would necessarily get the US involved. And if the US gets involved, that’s god knows how many Americans being sent back home in body bags.
We can’t have that. Not again. We left Afghanistan, and we don’t want to come back to the Middle East.
Hopefully, what happens is that a resolution is found in the region that can result in a lasting peace.
The fate of America counts on it.
HORRIFIC: Palestinian Hospital destroyed - hundreds presumably dead
Something terrible has happened. A significant escalation of violence has taken place Tuesday morning:
From the Associated Press, a massive blast rocked a Gaza City hospital packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter Tuesday, killing hundreds of people, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said. Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike, while the Israeli military said the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by Palestinian militants.
The Gaza Health Ministry said at least 500 people were killed. Video that The Associated Press confirmed was from the hospital showed fire engulfing the building and the hospital’s grounds strewn with torn bodies, many of them young children. Around them in the grass were blankets, school backpacks and other belongings.
This is awful. Heart wrenching. A terrible situation that is beyond words. And the implications of this event are scary, and also happening as this article is being written.
As a result of the news, Muslims all over the Middle East are taking to the streets to express their frustration and rage.
The situation is grim and the scene is alarming. In Israel, protests are breaking out all over the West Bank. In Jenin, protestors take to the streets and clash against the IDF, where the IDF started opening fire on protestors. In Hebron, massive street protests are taking place. In Ramallah, Israelis protest and even attack an IDF security vehicle. Meanwhile, in Jerusalem, gunfire cracks through the city, while portions of the city burn. In Jordan, protestors rush the Israeli embassy and set it ablaze. In Beirut, Jordanians can be heard calling for Hezbollah to join the war while the streets are flooded with protestors. In Turkey, thousands occupy the streets protesting outside of the Israeli embassy, where they would then siege, breach, and light on fire. And In Iran, thousands of Iranians march to the embassies of the France and the UK to protest. At the same time, Iranians take to Palestine square to chant "Death to Israel!" You get the point.
The people are outraged. Things are not looking good. Muslim leaders agree, by issuing harsh condemnations of Israel and cancelling meetings with the president of the US.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II called the Gaza hospital strike “an undeniable war crime,” Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi told Jordanian state media late Tuesday, shortly after Wednesday’s four-nation summit was canceled. He said they first spoke with Palestinian, Egyptian and American leaders. “The summit must be held at a time when there is a decision to stop this war,” Safadi said.
"After the terrible crime of the Zionist regime in the bombing and massacre of more than a thousand innocent women and children in the hospital #المعمدانی the time has come for the global unity of humanity against this fake regime more hated than ISIS and its killing machine.
Time is OVER" says Iranian foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a post on X.
Saudi Arabia strongly condemns the “heinous crime” committed by Israel at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Tuesday. “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemns in the strongest terms the heinous crime committed by the Israeli occupation forces by bombing Al-Ahly Baptist Hospital in Gaza, which led to the death of hundreds of civilians, including children, wounded and injured,” the statement read.
This is not good. Not good at all. Previously, there were maneuver for the war to end being put in place by various Muslim leaders and the president of the US, but, a peaceful resolution to the war seems out of reach at this point. We can only hope for cooler heads to prevail and for a lot of this rhetoric to be just that - rhetoric. Otherwise, things can begin to look really bad in the region, and across the globe.
