October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a crucial period dedicated to rallying against domestic abuse and elevating the narratives of survivors. This year, we are focusing our efforts on an imperative yet often overlooked dimension of domestic violence—its lethal interconnection with gun violence.
Both domestic violence, commonly referred to as Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), and gun violence are pressing public health crises that reverberate through our communities. A recent study alarmingly reveals that more than half of all female homicides are committed by current or former male intimate partners. [[link removed]] Equally concerning is the role firearms play, contributing to 50% of IPV-related incidents. These crises disproportionately impact marginalized and silenced communities.
