The overwhelming majority of House Republicans are trying to make Jim Jordan Speaker of the House, and if he manages to win, his speakership will be a grave mistake.

Why? Let’s just look at Jim Jordan’s record:

He is an ultra-conservative Trump ally and a staunch election denier. He even led the effort to overturn the election on January 6th.

He has not passed a bill in his 16 years in Congress and has been called a “legislative terrorist” by members of his own party.

He has been attempting and encouraging government shutdowns, holding the livelihoods of Americans hostage for his own benefit.

He introduced an extreme total abortion ban bill with no exceptions. And he just cosponsored a bill to outlaw abortion medication with a 25-year sentence for violations.
Jim Jordan does not care about the needs of Americans. He represents an alt-right wing of his party that has loyalty to no one but Trump.

After the first ballot, Jim Jordan fell just 17 votes short of winning the Speakership. That means there are 17 votes standing between the people’s House being controlled by an extremist.

We cannot pretend Jim Jordan is some fringe figure. 200 House Republicans backed him and his extreme agenda for Speaker. That is unacceptable, and we must hold each and every one of them accountable.

So, it is more important than ever that Democrats regain the majority in the House. Let’s make Republicans pay the price today and at the ballot box.
