John,
For years, I’ve worked to get weapons of war off our streets and put an
end to the National Rifle Association’s corrupt, pervasive power over our
government. But it’s clear that change must come from within the Senate.
The outrageous truth is that the multibillion-dollar gun industry enjoys a
shield of legal immunity afforded to no other American industry — thanks
to a perverse NRA-backed 2005 law called the Protection of Lawful Commerce
in Arms Act (PLCAA).
Manufacturers and dealers reap profits while families suffer from the
repeated cycles of gun violence and fear. And yet the gun liability shield
prevents victims and their families from having their day in court and
holding gun manufacturers accountable — all while Mitch McConnell and
Senate Republicans hide behind the filibuster and refuse to act.
As California’s next U.S. Senator, I’ll fight to abolish the filibuster so
that we can pass the legislation I’ve sponsored, the Equal Access to
Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, to ensure victims and their
families can have their day in court. A bill President Biden is personally
championing.

allow victims and families to pursue justice in civil court, and hold gun
manufacturers financially liable for the damages caused by the
proliferation of deadly weapons in the wrong hands, add your name as a

Violence Act today.

Gun violence is a daily horror, and what’s more, victims and their
families have virtually no legal recourse to hold accountable the
manufacturers who market these guns or the sellers which act negligently
in their sale.
I’ve not shied away from the fight to keep our families safe from gun
violence — and I’m hugely inspired by the pathbreaking work of the late
Senator Dianne Feinstein on gun safety.
She arrived in the Senate as a powerful advocate for gun safety and
succeeded in passing legislation that saved lives, including the 1994
assault weapons ban.
But in the years since George W. Bush and congressional Republicans
allowed that ban to expire and passed the NRA’s PLCAA legislation, the
frequency and deadliness of mass shootings have increased with no end in
sight.
That’s why we need to forge ahead on the path Senator Feinstein set for us
on guns — taking real, serious action to save lives and keep dangerous
weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them.

No other country suffers from the deadly frequency of mass shootings and
broader gun violence that we experience in the United States.
It doesn’t have to be this way. It shouldn’t be this way.
We have the power to change it. Thanks for raising your voice with mine on
behalf of all victims of gun violence and their families today.
