Hey John — It’s Summer
My opponents have taken to branding me as "radical." Why? Because I believe in safety in our schools, the future of our families, workers' rights, and healthcare for all.
Because I stand against corporate greed, fight for LGBTQ+ rights, and advocate for housing, clean air to breathe, clean water to drink, and will always stand up against environmental racism.
What they call “radical" is what regular folks would call common sense. In their attempts to uphold the status quo, they've twisted my dedication to justice and equality into something they hope will scare you away.
Here’s my question though: Since when did fighting for basic human dignity and rights become SO "radical"?
Ensuring our children can learn without fear and our educators can safely teach our kids is not radical—it's fundamental.
Securing a prosperous future for our families, one where they can thrive without the shadow of financial stress, is not radical—it's essential.
Standing with workers for fair wages and safe working conditions is not radical—it's just.
Challenging corporate greed and its stranglehold on our democracy is not radical—it's for the good of the people.
Advocating for healthcare for all, a system where illness doesn't equate to financial ruin, is not radical—it's humane.
Demanding equal rights and protections for our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors is not radical—it's love.
Insisting on accessible housing and an environment with clean air and water for all is not radical—it's a basic human right.
Confronting and dismantling environmental racism is not radical—it's imperative for our communities.
Yet, despite these truths, there are those who spend their time and resources weaving falsehoods about our mission, employing fear to fracture our community and diminish our efforts. They are willing to lie about us and about me just to preserve their power and the imbalances that have plagued our society for far too long.
That's why I need you, today.
Let’s show our opponents what our movement is really made of, which is advocating for folks like you, John. Can you chip in $10 or whatever is affordable to help accomplish these so-called “radical” goals? Every single dollar we raise helps us fight back!
Together, we're not just refuting the label "radical”—we're redefining it. We're claiming it as a badge of honor because we are radically compassionate, radically fair, and radically committed to justice for all.
Thank you for standing with me, for believing in the "radical" idea that we all deserve equality, safety, and happiness. They may try to take us down, but we'll keep rising, stronger and more determined than ever before.
In solidarity,
Rep Summer Lee
