John,
It’s past time we give our police
officers the tools to do their jobs with 21st-century
technology, and change the
rules to get more
officers out on the street deterring crime and pursuing
criminals.
Today I announced a new measure for
the March 2024 ballot. Safer San Francisco will give the police the tools and rules they
need to enforce the laws while preventing the Police Commission from
interfering in community safety efforts.
Safer San Francisco does 4 essential things:
- Provides our police officers with 21st-century technology
to enhance their ability to keep our city safe.
- Changes rules to increase the presence of officers on the
streets.
- Changes rules to get more officers pursuing
criminals.
- Ensures that the Police Commission prioritizes community
safety over ideology.
Safer San Francisco enables our police force to use technology
like publicly-owned cameras and drones to prevent, investigate, and
solve crimes like retail theft, auto theft, and car break-ins.
Additionally, we will streamline administrative duties and reduce
paperwork, allowing more officers to focus on patrolling our
streets.
Safer San Francisco is our
opportunity to make a real difference for our city by empowering our
police officers to protect our communities, and make the Police
Commission engage with key stakeholders like merchants, neighborhood
leaders, and former police officers to shape policies that truly
reflect the safety needs of our city.
I need your help and support to pass this essential measure. It won’t be
easy, we know there will be opposition who will be fighting us tooth
and nail every step of the way. But, I won’t let anything get in my
way of creating a safer city for all of us. Show
your support for Safer San Francisco by signing the
petition below.

Sincerely,
Mayor London Breed
