Ten years ago, I took off my heels, put on my sneakers, and led a thirteen-hour filibuster on the floor of the Texas State Senate in order to protect the right to a safe, legal abortion. It was physically and mentally exhausting, and had the unfortunate side effect of making me a permanent target of the extreme anti-choice right.
