As of today, the House has now gone two weeks without a Speaker. That means two weeks of no votes, no work on legislation, and no progress on preventing the government from shutting down in one month. 

Last month, House Republicans brought our country to the brink of a government shutdown. Then, they ousted Speaker McCarthy. Now, they’ve nominated Jim Jordan to be Speaker.

All of this goes to show that House Republicans are unfit to govern. We’re one month away from the government shutting down and instead of working to prevent this, the House GOP is fighting an open civil war within their party. 

If the government shuts down, it will have detrimental effects on millions of Americans who will miss wages, have to go without food assistance, and be affected by the loss of federal funds for critical programs for veterans, health care, and more.

It’s time we have a government that puts people — not politics — first. If we’re going to take back the House next year and get to work for the American people, we must amplify Democratic leaders like Becca Balint who are fighting the good fight in Congress.
