I‘m not giving up the fight for broad-based student debt cancellation.
I know Jim Jordan. I spent two terms serving with him on a committee. I saw up close and personal how he systematically incited insurrectionists, spread violence against immigrants, enabled the former occupant of the White House, eroded core functions of our democracy, and covered up systemic sexual abuse. He is truly the worst of the worse. And he is the front runner for Speaker of the House.
The consequences of this man wielding the gavel will be catastrophic. And moreover, it’s not even clear if he has the votes in his own caucus.
The people deserve a functional Congress. It is clearer by the day that the only path forward is a bipartisan governing coalition. The Republicans may hold a monopoly on cruelty and harm but don’t hold a functional majority. All it takes is a few folks with a shred of decency to cross the aisle and vote for Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker so we can avert a government shutdown, address global conflicts, greenlight dire humanitarian aid, and more.
I will never lose sight of the people who sent me to Congress. I wish I could say the same for my colleagues who walk these halls.
Yours in service,
Ayanna
