Jack, it’s been two weeks since MAGA Republicans ousted Kevin McCarthy as speaker.

Congress only has until Nov. 17 to avoid a costly government shutdown, but all House business has come to a standstill as the GOP continues their embarrassing spectacle.

The House is expected to vote on a new speaker today. Jim Jordan is currently the most likely candidate but there are still a few GOP holdouts. There is another option: Hakeem Jeffries. Jeffries has unanimous support from all 212 House Democrats. Now, he just needs five House Republicans to recognize their own leadership vacuum and make a deal.

It might seem amusing to watch Republicans in disarray, but the reality is no joke. Without a House Speaker, Congress is unable to pass legislation or take most meaningful action.
