Today is Super Tuesday!
Dear LULAC Family,
Today is Super Tuesday, when for many of us, our voice truly is our vote! More delegates can be won on Super Tuesday than on any other day. Here are the states where primaries and caucuses are being held:
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia. Also, Democrats living across the world can vote in person and online in their own polls.
Super Tuesday matters because this process is how our political parties will determine outright winners who get a majority of more than 50% of the votes cast or the two candidates who received the most votes in their field and will advance to a runoff election. In some states, the process allows you to only vote for candidates in the party for which you registered.
Remember, different states have different rules so take a moment to learn about voting laws in your area before going to your polling location. Go to the website for the Department of Elections or County Clerk-Recorder/Registrar in your community or call them and they will have volunteers available today to answer questions by phone.
An important fact to remember is voting is your right if you are a U.S. citizen and at least 18-years of age. States generally require voter registration. Some U.S. states do not require advance registration, instead allowing voters to register when they arrive at the polls, in what is called same day registration or Election Day registration. Please make sure to check the rules for your state!
Finally, watch out for common tactics some people may use to try keeping you from exercising your right. Also, 36 states require you to present identification to vote. Click here for more details.
Go vote and take a friend with you to the polls today. LULAC trusts you and every person eligible to vote will remember 2020 is an opportunity to lift our Latino community across America through our vote.
