Dear SPUC supporter
A survey by the National Union of Students puts the number of students dropping out of university who are single parents at 65% (2 in 3).
The Alma Mater Fund (Latin for 'nourishing mother') is a UNIQUE pro-life service that addresses this problem face on by providing grants to pregnant university students facing financial difficulties.
|
|
The grants enable young women to continue their degree courses through the pregnancy and early parenthood.

Caitlin from Scotland is one such beneficiary of the Fund, pictured here with baby Sienna.
Caitlin said the scheme “really helped me out”, by providing her with things she couldn’t afford, including a cot and a pram.
Previously, SPUC’s Alma Mater Fund was only available in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
NOW, the Alma Mater covers universities in England and Wales too.
But funds are URGENTLY needed to meet the extra demand.

To make a true difference and to operate effectively, this life-saving project requires:
- A full-time support officer to liaise with applicants, manage the applications, research other support available, and promote the project on UK campuses – to ensure we’re reaching students in need.
- A part-time co-ordinator to oversee the initiative, make decisions about grants, and ensure The Alma Mater Fund’s sustainability for the future.
- Resources to be able to support pregnant students at all higher education institutions (not just universities), and larger grants for those with more significant needs.
Total running costs—excluding grants awards—for the next 12 months = £55,000
That’s why I urge you to donate £15 or £30 or £50 or £100 or £250 or £500 or £1,000 or £5,000 or more TODAY to make it possible to support young women needing help at EVERY UK university.

|
Thank you for standing with students going through the most testing of times and saving precious babies.
Yours in defence of life.

PS – To date, SPUC’s autumn appeal has raised a wonderful £64,563.92.
My sincere thanks go to every single supporter who has given so far. Your generous support is helping to save lives.
The appeal CLOSES on Friday, and another £35,436.08 is still needed to meet our £100K target.

As well as helping students through their crisis pregnancies, funds are URGENTLY needed to pressure the government to END its deadly and dangerous abortion Pills-by-Post scheme.
This wicked scheme is responsible for:
- Driving up UK abortions to record levels
- An estimated 272,000 unborn babies killed last year (2022)
- Record ambulance call-outs and hospitalisations for women in UK who undergo DIY abortions.
Unless the Pills-by-post campaign is fully actioned this autumn, our opponents will almost certainly take advantage and push Parliament to decriminalise abortion entirely and the problems described above will get even worse.
NOW is the TIME to take ACTION.
