Join union members, Seattle DSA members, workers and friends for a screening of Finally Got The News at the Beacon Cinema in Columbia City!

“FINALLY GOT THE NEWS is a forceful, unique documentary that reveals the activities of the League of Revolutionary Black Workers inside and outside the auto factories of Detroit. Through interviews with the members of the movement, footage shot in the auto plants, and footage of leafleting and picketing actions, the film documents their efforts to build an independent black labor organization that, unlike the UAW, will respond to worker’s problems, such as the assembly line speed-up and inadequate wages faced by both black and white workers in the industry.

Beginning with a historical montage, from the early days of slavery through the subsequent growth and organization of the working class, FINALLY GOT THE NEWS focuses on the crucial role played by the black worker in the American economy.”

This event is open to the public, and will be great for new and prospective members to get to know each other — so be sure to invite your friends!

 Please RSVP

(In-person attendance is encouraged but Zoom is available for those who need it.)

In addition to discussing the War on Gaza, we’ll also discuss our incredible victory in collecting the signatures to get Raise the Wage on the ballot in February 2024! Yes, that's right! We did it!  All we are waiting on is for King County elections to certify the signatures. We’ll also discuss next steps in the campaign - because we’re not done! This was an impressive feat but we still need to win a $19/hour minimum wage.

At our upcoming October Chapter Membership meeting we’ll also be voting to fill the 2 vacancies on the Local Council left by Amy - who is stepping down to focus on being on the National Political Committee - and Ramy, who is moving out of state.  Thank you both for your incredible service to the chapter and building Seattle DSA!

So far, there have been 2 candidates to fill the co-chair role and elected organizer:

  • Sydney (for elected organizer only)
  • Fernando

ONE final thing - we’re going to have food at the meeting! Yup, we’re resurrecting the tradition of bringing snacks and drinks for folks.  If you want to help with that by bringing something, email [email protected]
