# [#]It’s been nearly two weeks since Republicans brought us to the brink of a government shutdown and then ousted their own Speaker. Two weeks that the U.S. House of Representatives has been unable to govern, all due to Republican infighting and dysfunction.

It’s beyond simply embarrassing, it’s putting our country at risk. We need to pass a budget before yet another potential government shutdown in November, and we are unable to support our ally Israel despite a horrifying international crisis. There is too much at stake for Republicans to keep playing political games. Their chaos is hurting Americans and stopping us from supporting our allies abroad.

Listen, we have to be prepared. It looks like Republicans may elect Jim Jordan as their next Speaker, and I have seen firsthand how his lies, hypocrisy and abuse of power can hurt our country. His overt loyalty to Donald Trump over anything and everything else is horrifying and harmful – whatever position he ends up in.

The Republicans race to the right is no surprise, but it is disheartening and dangerous. They will take their so-called “culture wars,” absurd budget proposals and anti-democratic attacks to a whole new extreme and we have to be ready to fight back.

As a leader in the House, I stand ready to do everything I can to support Democrats’ efforts to take back the House. It’s never been more obvious that Republicans aren’t fit to govern and the future of our country is at stake.
