Here's an update on Afghanistan:

Afghanistan is hit by fourth 6.3-magnitude quake in just over a week

Afghanistan was struck by a devastating earthquake on October 7th, and it was followed by three more quakes — with the latest one coming over the weekend. The country is in a state of crisis, and the death toll is still climbing.

Will you make an emergency humanitarian gift today to provide crucial aid to the women, girls, and children who have been severely impacted by this disaster?

MAKE A HUMANITARIAN GIFT

As we informed you last week, this earthquake has claimed over 2,000 lives, with a majority being women and girls. Shockingly, more than 90% of the casualties were women and children, as the earthquakes occurred during the day when men were typically working outdoors.

Women and girls are in desperate need of your humanitarian gift to receive essential care. Will you consider making a humanitarian gift to deliver emergency health care?

It's crucial to understand that among the affected population, an estimated 3,028 are women of reproductive age, 1,414 are adolescent girls, and 183 are pregnant women, all of whom urgently require basic health care.

Please read our original message below and if you can, deliver an emergency humanitarian gift. By making an emergency gift, you can help provide life-saving care to women and girls in the hardest-hit regions, such as the province of Herat, and wherever help is needed most.

ALERT: A deadly earthquake kills 2,000+ in Afghanistan

Please: As the death toll continues to climb. So does the number of women and girls requiring emergency health care.

MAKE AN EMERGENCY GIFT

On Saturday, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck northwest of the city of Herat, resulting in a tragic loss of over 2,000 lives, with the death toll still rising. Of those who died, the majority are women and girls — as they were home while men worked.

Survivors are bravely sifting through the rubble, facing a dire situation marked by a severe lack of medical care, water, food, shelter, and humanitarian aid in a nation already ravaged by conflict. Out of the 12,100 people affected by the earthquake, approximately 3,000 are women of reproductive age, along with 1,410 adolescent girls, and 183 pregnant women.

UNFPA, the United Nations agency for sexual and reproductive health, is on the ground now, working tirelessly to ensure that essential health care services are integrated into emergency responses.

Will you make a humanitarian gift today to deliver crucial care to women and girls who have been gravely impacted by this tragic earthquake? In disaster situations like these, every second counts, and we need to scale up our response.
