John, I am absolutely honored to be on the cover of Chicago Latina! |
John, my time in Congress hasn't been easy, but I'm doing this for my community. It's like I told Chicago Latina: |
"In Congress, my name may be on the door of my office, but I am always conscious that I am here because there is a community right by my side, believing in me, counting on me." |
And I've always had a passion for helping people. Before running for office, I was the Executive Director of the Center for Changing Lives, a non-profit organization in my community.
Then, my top focus was getting people the benefits and resources they needed to thrive, whether it was a bed to sleep in, or a job application.
Now, as the first Latina from the Midwest to be elected to Congress, the right to make sure folks have the bare minimum – a safe neighborhood, a roof over their heads, and food in their fridge – continues.
But to continue fighting, my team and I need your help to maximize efforts to get me back on the ballot. Will you chip in any toward meeting residents, collecting signatures, and getting my message out? |
Thank you, Congresswoman Delia Ramirez |
Delia Ramirez has dedicated her life and career to public service and advocating for working families. She is a deeply rooted community leader and public servant whose values are informed by her upbringing as the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants.
In 2022, Delia was elected to represent Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District and became the first Latina Congresswoman in the Midwest. In just a few months in Congress, she has introduced legislation with bipartisan support to help student veterans, is co-leading the Dream and Promise Act, and is introducing legislation that gives tenants the right to organize. She serves as Vice Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, and sits on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. She is also a Board Member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) PAC, and CPC Special Order Hour Convener.
Delia also serves as Co-Chair of the Strengthening Democracy Task Force, as well as Vice Chair of the Equal Rights Amendment Caucus. She is a fighter who is determined to deliver for her constituents, and is working everyday to achieve equitable distribution of resources for Illinois infrastructure, clean energy, transportation, housing, healthcare, and jobs. She also advocates for federal resources so that Illinois may continue to be a welcoming state for new arrivals and asylum seekers.
