Dear Georgian,
It is an honor and a privilege to represent you.
You sent me to Washington 13 years ago to fight for conservative values and represent the interests of Georgia’s Eighth District. For over a decade, we have worked together to secure wins for Georgia’s small businesses, agriculture, and defense communities.
This past month in Washington has been tumultuous for the Republican Party as we have grappled with the challenges of electing a new House Speaker. In addition to securing the most votes in the House Republican Conference to get the Republican nomination for House Speaker, the nominee will also need 217 votes on the House floor during the official vote to become the Speaker of the House.
After receiving the most votes in the Republican conference against House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, Majority Leader Steve Scalise withdrew from the race after enough members said they would withhold their votes from Scalise, preventing him from getting the 217 votes needed to become Speaker.
On Friday, I felt called to file against Rep. Jim Jordan so that our conference had a choice between two candidates who deeply care for our country and an opportunity to participate in democracy rather than have a leader win by default.
Our conference voted, and Rep. Jim Jordan secured the nomination for House Speaker by a vote of 124-81.
I highly respect Jim Jordan. He is an asset to the Republican Party and our nominee for Speaker. Our conference has spoken, and now we must unite behind Jordan so we can get Congress back to work.
I will always prioritize the best interests of our district, and it is best for our district and nation for the People’s House to elect our new Speaker quickly so we can focus on serving the people.
As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices.
