You may have noticed a few changes around here, so I wanted you to hear the (very exciting!) news directly from me:

I’m so happy to share that I recently married my longtime partner, Santa Ana Councilman David Penaloza, and I’ll now be going by Kim Nguyen-Penaloza.

And I’m even more overjoyed to announce that we are expecting a baby daughter this January!

This is such an exciting time for our family, and I’m grateful to everyone who has supported us on this journey.

So you may be asking: What does this mean for my campaign for Congress?

In some ways, nothing! And in other ways, everything .

From the beginning of my campaign, I’ve focused on the very real issues Orange County families are facing as politicians in Washington put their own interests above those of our children and our communities.

Now, as an expecting mother, I’m more determined than ever to get to Congress and fight for our future.

Climate change, reproductive freedom, gun violence… all of these issues will impact our children’s lives even more than they have affected our own. We can’t leave their future in the hands of MAGA extremists who only care about themselves.

I know that running for Congress with a newborn will be a unique challenge, and I’m privileged to have a strong support system in place to help me do it.

I’m certainly not the first woman to be pregnant or caring for a newborn while continuing to work. Unfortunately, we still see open prejudice against working mothers – even among fellow Democrats.

But I am committed to our fight to flip CA-45 blue and deliver on our Democratic values in Congress to build a future our children can be proud of.
