Picture it:
A darkened room. Ambient light creeps from a smoldering fire. The air is hazy with cigar smoke. In overstuffed leather chairs, a few men are lounging in black suits and drinking from heavy whiskey glasses between puffs of cigar – further choking the air and dimming the light.
Breaking the silence, one man begins, "I don't really care how bad he is."
Slamming his glass on the table, another man pitches in, "who will make us the most money as President?"
"Whoever we pick." A third man retorts and continues, "So, who do we want?"
Sounds like a scene out of a Netflix series, right?
But that's how No Labels wants to pick the next president.
One Country Project is fighting to stop No Labels and make sure the next President isn't chosen in a backroom deal. Can you chip in $3 today and help us keep up the fight?
No Labels is a self-styled "centrist organization" – they may call themselves centrist, but there's nothing centrist about them.
Here's what No Labels really wants: to bring its handful of super-donors — like Harlan Crow, Justice Clarence Thomas' far right extremist benefactor — together to let them pick the next president. A few wealthy donors picking a presidential candidate and running a false flag campaign is anti-democratic and it's definitely not centrist.
Secret deals and secret meetings. That's how rural America gets left behind. But, for rural Americans there is too much at stake to let out-of-touch billionaires decide the race for the presidency.
If voters get misled by No Labels, we'll end up with a second term for Donald Trump and his cronies. That means: rural hospitals will close, well paying jobs created by the Inflation Reduction Act will disappear, rural broadband funding will dry up, and our democracy will be pushed to the brink.
We're out to put an end to it and put rural issues front and center in the presidential election. Pitch in $3 now to tell voters what's at stake, and what No Labels is really up to.
