Chamber Requests Revisions to Langston Boulevard Area Plan
On Saturday, October 14, the Arlington County Board voted to issue a Request to Advertise (RTA) public hearings for the final consideration of the Langston Boulevard Area Plan, in addition to related Zoning Ordinance amendments, Master Transportation Plan amendments, and General Land Use Plan amendments. The Area Plan and amendments are the culmination of the decade-long effort of Plan Langston Boulevard to develop a comprehensive vision for the 4.6 mile corridor.
Ahead of the October 14 meeting, the Chamber submitted a letter requesting that the County Board broaden the scope of the Request to Advertise to include two additional Area Plan Goals – the retention or expansion of retail and commercial use, and the provision of parking resources. Including these as Plan Goals would allow for both policies to be considered as community benefits, comparable to those of the existing Plan Goals such as creation or retention of affordable housing, or creation of green space. The Chamber also requested direction in the Plan for Staff to begin the creation of a parking plan for the corridor. Small businesses that are members of the Chamber emphasized the need for sufficient and accessible parking throughout the corridor to accommodate their consumer base.
In addition to the letter, Government Affairs Manager John Musso testified to the County Board.
The public hearing and vote on the Area Plan will be held on November 11. The Arlington Chamber will continue to engage the County on the Area Plan ahead of the hearing and final vote.
