It’s a matter of fairness. 

Today, nearly half of Black people and 44.8% of Latinos are living with obesity, compared to 42.2% of white Americans.

Yet, Medicare is prohibited from covering all obesity treatments. This means older adults in greatest need can’t get care to improve their health.

Right now, Congress is considering the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA) to solve this problem.

TROA would provide coverage for anti-obesity medications under Medicare Part D. These medications are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and are proven to help individuals achieve significant weight loss, reducing their risk of chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease. The act also would provide Medicare coverage for other obesity treatments, including nutrition counseling, behavioral therapy, and community-based programs
