As we enter the last stretch of the year, there’s so much to share. But I must take a moment to first acknowledge the violence happening in the Middle East. My heart breaks for all those who have lost loved ones to horrific acts of terror, and for the families of the Americans killed. Miami-Dade stands with the people of Israel and against terror, as we continue praying for peace among nations and working to build a safer, more tolerant, more inclusive community here at home.
As we close out Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re also reflecting on the rich culture and contributions of our Hispanic community. October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so remember to sport your pink as we raise awareness. There’s so much to be thankful for as we head into the holiday season – and know that I’m grateful for each and every one of our nearly 3 million County residents!

Your 2023-24 County Budget
On September 21, the Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to pass my proposed 2023-24 budget.
This fiscally responsible, compassionate, people-first budget puts YOUR priorities at the forefront. We’re so thankful for the many residents who voiced their opinions and played a crucial role in shaping our county's budget. We’re proud to share that for the second year in a row, we’re providing a one percent tax cut which – in addition to other cuts – totals $36 million in savings for residents. We’ve also allocated an additional $18M for our Save our Seniors program, which means about $500 extra dollars for each eligible household.
Community Corner
Earlier this month, I joined Board Chairman Oliver Gilbert to launch District 1’s Septic to Sewer Conversion program! Through this launch, the County will convert over 60 properties from an aging septic sank system to the County’s cleaner, more resilient centralized sanitary sewer system.
I also visited the All Souls Episcopal church for the Feast of St. Francis Blessing of the Animals. It was great to see our Animal Services Department’s mobile adoption unit in action. A heartfelt thank you to Women for Paws for their continuous support. And don’t forget, we’re hosting a Mega match a thon on October 21 – there’s no better time to add a furry friend to your home!
The Better Bus Network is coming on November 13!
The Better Bus Network (BBN) is the biggest network overhaul in county history. Led by riders and the community, the BBN will improve Metrobus service for more people by increasing frequency, creating better connections, and improving the rider experience overall.
On November 13, we’ll launch the new MetroBus network map which includes expansion, consolidation, and renaming of several routes.
Regular riders should be sure to review the new system map here and route their normal commute through the Better Bus Trip Planner!

Miami-Dade has been recognized by the National Association of Counties (NACo) as part of the 2023 Achievement Awards issued to local governments for implementing innovative local programs to improve service for residents. This year, we received 75 achievement awards.
This October, our Miami-Dade Police Department is wearing pink to support our community’s breast cancer fighters, and to honor those who were taken too soon.
Please join me in welcoming Cassandra
I’m thrilled to re-introduce Cassandra Arnold, who previously served as my Constituent Services Director. She’s returned to the Mayor's office to serve as my new Deputy Chief of Staff overseeing the Equity and Engagement team. She brings a wealth of experience in community outreach, especially with the Haitian community, and I’m so grateful she’s chosen to rejoin the team as we work to build a more inclusive Miami-Dade for all.
