Dear John,
Workers need your support in a crucial fight for rights and fair labor practices. Despite the company’s worker-friendly image, Trader Joe's has been engaging in union-busting tactics and obstructing the efforts of its employees to organize and negotiate for their rights.
Trader Joe's employees have had to open more than 50 unfair labor practice cases with the NLRB, most of which are still in their early stages of investigation. Allegations include retaliatory scheduling against employees who discuss working conditions or express support for a union, and subjecting employees to coercive interrogations about their union activities.
Already in one case decided in March, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) found Trader Joe’s guilty of illegally suspending and firing a worker at a Houston store who had the courage to raise concerns about workplace policies. As a result, the company was not only required to reinstate the worker but also provide back pay.
Workers deserve to be treated with respect, dignity, and fairness. Union organizing can provide an opportunity for workers to have a voice in their workplaces, secure fair wages, and ensure safe working conditions.
In the face of these challenges, it's time for us to make our voices heard. We are asking you to pledge your support for a potential customer strike against Trader Joe's until the company ends its union-busting practices and engages in genuine, good-faith negotiations with its employees.
Your pledge is an essential and powerful statement of support for the workers who are courageously fighting for their rights, fair compensation, and a workplace that aligns with the company’s proclaimed values of integrity, sustainability, and community care.
A customer strike is a compelling way for us, as consumers, to voice our solidarity with these workers and put pressure on Trader Joe's to live up to its progressive image. Your pledge will be a vital tool in showing the company that its customers expect it to treat its workers fairly and equitably.
When you sign the pledge, you show your willingness to stand alongside workers striving for their rights and a just workplace. Your pledge can be a catalyst for positive change.
Thank you for standing up for the values of fairness and justice.
