Texas friends!
There is soooooo much going on! This week's email is packed with good stuff. Don't miss out!
You know, over 14 years ago when I started our organization, it was really because I love to organize and I love to DO stuff. So we plan a lot of activities! We try to get the word out about these things in as many ways as possible, but let me call your attention to some of my faves that are coming up or being newly planned...
HUGE!!! We've got Sen Rand Paul on Nov 5!
I think it's pretty cool that Senator Paul, one of the most in-demand Republican speakers in the nation, is not only doing his book launch with TTP, but he is letting us keep all the proceeds! Join us! Details here.
Gatherings Of Gratitude! We're hosting friends all over Texas for Thanksgiving! This includes Beaumont Area, Cross Timbers (Granbury area), Collin County, the RGV Sector, Denton County, the Bay Area, and of course, the location that started the tradition in my own crowded dining room, Tarrant County. But hey, if none of those are your usual TTP home, no worries... go anyway! Make sure to give thanks with your True Texas friends.
America'sFavoritePastime -by now you should already have this on your calendar. We've got such an incredible lineup! It's the True Texans vs the Lone Star Fighters, our favorite electeds, on Oct 28. Bring the family for the hitting contest, a hot dog dinner, and good, ol' fashioned fun with all your patriotic friends. It's free to attend!
Psst... coming up! We are in the very early stages of planning a beach trip and fishing excursion for our next True Texas Adventure! Our RGV location is hosting us May 9-12 (give or take based on your availability over the work week and Mother's Day). Stay tuned for more details, but I wanted to get it on your radar!
Training Our Army: True Texas Project will be offering multiple classes from our Certified True Texan training program at the TEXIT convention Nov 10/11. This convention will be pretty impressive from what I can tell. They're offering us discounted tickets since we're speaking. Use this link to get $80 off!
Christmas Is Coming! We're celebrating together with appetizers and singing along to dueling pianos in both Houston (on 12/7) AND Grapevine (on 12/14 in the Christmas Capital of Texas!).
This event is always such a blast. I can't wait! Plus... this is where we award our scholarship winners. The scholarship contest will be announced soon, so watch for that!
It's a lot, right??? And these are just my faves that I'm calling out. Our 18 locations plan all kinds of great events in addition to these! With all we've got going on, if you are not getting involved and meeting some of the best people on the planet, you're really missing out!
TTP In The News... I also want to call your attention to a super fun article. Actually, the article is stupid (what do you expect from The Startlegram?), but what's fun is that True Texas Project made the list again! What list? The Southern Poverty Law Center's hate list!Guess we're doing something right. It includes greats like Mass Resistance (run by a TTP leader), Moms For Liberty, Texas Eagle Forum, ACT For America, our friends at The Remembrance Project, Protect Texas Kids... and True Texas Project of course! They've got us listed as "anti-government," which Fran and I find hilarious since our mission statement is all about getting folks involved in government. Dummies. 😉
Pumpkin Contest!
FUN! One of our volunteers in the Denton area, Deb Avellano, carved a fantastic pumpkin last year. Check this out!
It's inspired me to offer up a contest this year. Carve a True Texas Project-themed pumpkin and send me a pic of it lit up on display ([email protected]). We'll choose a winner and give away 2 free tickets to our Christmas party! (Winner can choose the Houston party or the DFW party).
Fran's Lege Update:
One week into the 3rd Special session and the Senate has done a bunch of work. The House, not so much. Read all about it here.
There was a new development on Friday afternoon after I sent the Friday message - the House actually scheduled a Committee Hearing. It's State Affairs, scheduled for Monday at 10am to hear SB4, SB7, and SB11. Read the full message linked above for a description of those bills.
REMEMBER - with House bills, we can make online comments during hearings, which is almost as good as being there! Here's the link.
Go there between now and Monday to register your thoughts on those 3 bills. It's the only chance you'll get!
One correction to the Friday message - I said I would be at the Capitol Tuesday the 17th and Tuesday the 25tth. Turns out the 25th is Wednesday! My bad! So the correction is the 17th and 24th. Both Tuesdays! Join me if you can in the Rotunda at 9:00 am.
Stay Engaged! Fran Rhodes, President
True Texans Taking Charge - Election 2024
We are so busy prepping for the election already! Plus we've got the November election looming. This is our time to shine. Tell others!
You'll notice on the November ballot recommendations linked above that we suggest voting against all bonds. Wanna understand why? We put a list of the most common tax gimmicks on our website. When they tell you all the new buildings and programs come at no cost to you -- don't believe them! Oh, those jokesters...
Need a handy link for all the incumbent scorecards? There are so many good ones! I asked our friend Jeramy Kitchen at Texans For Fiscal Responsibility if he by chance was going to compile them all in one place... and he said YES! Woohoo! This is a great tool. Bookmark it. Thank you, Jeramy!
What's the #1 way to win a race? Blockwalk. One of our favorite candidates is Mike Olcott. He's running against one of the Dirty Dozen, Glenn Rogers. Why do we like Mike so much? Because he is consistently a top donor AND a top blockwalker, literally spending the last 14 years traveling all over the state to help good candidates. Very rarely will you find an activist that will both donate and volunteer. Mike does. Now he's running for office himself, and we want to return the favor. We're doing a group blockwalk on Saturday, January 27. SAVE THE DATE!
Speaking of blockwalking... Remember when you are out and about walking your precinct or walking for a candidate, drop off a True Texas flyer. In January our "how-to" video will be all about tips for blockwalking, and we'll provide you with a candidate list for your area. We can even get you a walk list for your neighborhood. Watch for that, and gear up to WIN!
October's How-To Video - You aren't gonna want to miss this. We're covering How To Protect Elections! Get to your local meeting - that's where you can see it!
This newsletter is already super long, but there's still so much more to say about how we are prepping for the elections. We're only 1/2 way through our list of challengers to the Dirty Dozen, so I'll get back to that next week, as well as provide a summary of all the training links. For this week, just get to your local meeting and start networking.
