A beautiful pink octopus swimming in the blue ocean

John,

Octopuses are highly intelligent, complex creatures with personalities, mood swings, and the ability to learn and remember lessons. They even play when they’re bored!

Yet Spanish multinational Nueva Pescanova plans to open the first octopus mega-farm this year. Imagine one million of these special animals stuffed into crowded tanks, then subjected to slow, stressful deaths in ice cold water.

The good news is together we can stop this torture farm…for good.

First, our petition went viral, capturing the world’s attention. And now we’re ready to raise the pressure even more.

If we quickly raise the money to make it happen, together we could launch groundbreaking investigative research to expose what governments are behind it, unleash a grassroots lobbying push across Europe, and run a massive ad campaign demanding decision-makers ban octopus farms forever.

It’s an ambitious plan, and our team is ready to go. Will you help stop the octopus torture chamber?

As demand for octopus meat has skyrocketed worldwide, corporations have been racing to find ways to breed them in captivity to maximize profits. Nueva Pescanova made a breakthrough…and then its plans to build a million-octopus farm in the Canary Islands were exposed.

Scientists quickly warned that keeping these brilliant creatures in captivity would lead to great suffering. Captive octopuses often manage to escape…and when they can’t, they’ve been known to eat their own arms in distress.

But despite outcry from around the world, the fact is that right now there is no EU law to prevent the torture farm from happening. And that’s where we come in.

Together, we can unleash a massive lobbying effort, targeting the government of the Canary Islands, the Spanish government, and the European Commission, to get them to reject this torture farm and implement a ban for future farms.

We’ll hire investigators to uncover which governments have supported (or even helped to fund!) Nueva Pescanova’s cruel research and expose it to the public to embarrass them to act. And we’ll make sure citizens across the EU know exactly what is happening…and mobilize them to demand their governments stop it.

Time and time again, our community has come together to demand humanity over corporate profits. Will you join us and do it again for these beautiful, complex creatures?

Massive factory farms are already a big enough problem – both because of the inhumane treatment of other animals like cows and pigs and their horrifying impact on our health and environment. The last thing we should be doing is expanding these practices.

Thanks for all that you do,
David, Allison, Danny and the Ekō team
