Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update

It has been a hectic week in the U.S. House of Representatives! I hope you all had a great week and were able to spend plenty of time with family and friends. If you would like to share this newsletter with others, please direct them to this link and encourage them to subscribe.

An Update on the Race for the Next Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

As I wrote in last week’s newsletter, the U.S. House of Representatives is currently without a Speaker and the House Republican Conference has been meeting all week to determine who the next Speaker will be. I initially supported House Majority Leader Steve Scalise who won a majority vote of the House Republican Conference. After it became clear he was not going to be able to win a vote for Speaker on the House Floor, he withdrew his name from consideration. House Republicans then began voting again. I supported Representative Jim Jordan and he won the vote in the Republican Conference 124-89. Representative Jordan is now our Speaker-Designee, but he still has a tough road ahead to reach a majority of members voting on the House Floor, which is required to be elected Speaker. I will keep you updated!

Lesko in the News

It's a scary time in the world. Our border is in shambles, there is horrific terrorism happening across the globe, and the Biden Administration continues to push us down a dangerous path for America. Listen to my thoughts on these topics, the Speaker race, and more with Seth Leibsohn.

It's time for Republicans to come together and select a Speaker so we can continue to tackle the important issues facing our country, including the crisis at the border, energy independence, and the growing conflict in the Middle East. Listen to my thoughts on this and more with Russell and Hunter.

Lesko Meetings

It was great to attend the Sun City HOA meeting to meet constituents and discuss the many services we offer right here in Arizona. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces and welcoming new friends to the district!

I also met with constituents in Sun City West to discuss everything happening in Washington and what we’re doing to help the people of AZ-08!

GET THE FACTS: Border Crisis

In September of this year, U.S. Border Patrol agents had more encounters than ever before with over 260,000 encounters over the course of the month. Without properly securing our border, more Americans than ever are being put at risk and sanctuary cities like New York and Chicago are starting to feel the burden us border states have been feeling for quite some time. Although President Biden has now said he is going to begin working on the wall, I will not hold my breath and I do not think Arizonans should either. This is why it’s vital for congressional Republicans to continue to fight for more border security and why I’m proud to have voted yes on H.R. 2.

Around the District

Team Lesko attended the Veterans Affinity monthly veterans coffee hour that brings veterans together for fellowship and increased awareness about resources available to them in the community.

Our office presented a Congressional Recognition to Rick Kreiberg for his work as the Founder and Executive Director of Veterans Affinity. His organization’s mission is to help veterans get the care they need and the benefits they have earned by collaborating with the VA and community care partners.

Casework Highlight

A constituent contacted the office after he was unable to obtain an answer from the IRS about his missing tax refund. Our office contacted the IRS, identified the tax return issue, and had the constituent’s refund processed and refunded.
