Republican Texas Senator Ted Cruz contends that the Biden administration, which he characterizes as "the most consistently and virulently anti-Israel administration America has ever seen," played a substantial role in financing last week's brutal Hamas terrorist attack in Israel. He highlights Hamas' assault on Israel as the "worst attack Israel has faced in 50 years."
Cruz expresses deep concern over the horrific events that unfolded during the attack, including the mass murder of Jews and the systematic targeting of civilians. He describes the acts as "evil" and suggests that they amount to war crimes.
Cruz accuses Biden officials of having full knowledge that channeling American tax dollars to Gaza would inadvertently fund Hamas' terrorism. Despite this knowledge, they chose to proceed with the financial support, which Cruz believes led to the ongoing catastrophe in Israel.
The Senator references a warning from the State Department in 2021, indicating the potential risks associated with providing U.S. aid to areas controlled by Palestinian groups, particularly the potential indirect benefits to Iran-supported terrorist organizations such as Hamas. He mentions an internal State Department document from March 2021, which raises concerns among officials regarding the Biden administration's plan to release over $360 million in U.S. funds for the Palestinian Authority.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk provides further context to Cruz's accusation by shedding light on the allocation of funds within the American Rescue Plan. Kirk points out that this plan was intended to assist Americans in recovering from COVID lockdowns, but a portion of it, approximately $500 million, was directed to the State Department to aid in resettling refugees. Kirk underscores that $33.7 million was sent directly to Gaza through the UNRWA, an organization often referred to as effectively a branch of Hamas, with Biden having contributed $730 million since 2021, making the U.S. taxpayer its most substantial donor.
Kirk additionally highlights unsettling information regarding UNRWA, such as employees in Gaza being affiliated with a Hamas-linked trade union, some being active Hamas fighters, and UNRWA schools allegedly promoting hatred against Jews and glorifying terrorism. Furthermore, UNRWA facilities are believed to have been used for storing rockets and munitions, as well as serving as human shields for Hamas.
Kirk mentions that the Trump administration ceased funding UNRWA in 2018 due to this widely known information. However, the Biden State Department has argued that funding UNRWA serves America's national security interests, even though the group has faced allegations of war crimes.
In conclusion, Kirk argues that Joe Biden's American Rescue Plan inadvertently fueled inflation, funded terrorism, and adversely affected Jewish communities. He demands an immediate halt to this financial flow and urges the accountability of those responsible for supporting terrorism with taxpayer funds. He expresses his frustration with the way Washington allocates financial resources.
