I just finished up my annual walk across Connecticut. It’s always my favorite week of the year, and this one was no exception.
It’s a good reminder of why it’s important to have regular people — not just billionaires — in charge of our government. I met hundreds of people who need government to even out the rough edges of the economy and set rules that give everyone a chance to succeed.
Families want a government that is going to protect the benefits they’ve worked hard for — like Medicare and Social Security. They want a government that isn’t in the pocket of the gun lobby or the drug companies or the oil industry. They want a government that is working for them.
That’s really what’s at stake in 2024. We’re barely a year out from Election Day, and if Republicans win the Senate and White House, they will use their power to help their corporate friends, not the people I met on my walk.
Just like they did in 2017, when the GOP controlled the White House, Senate and House, they will turn government into a vehicle to enrich their billionaire and special interest friends. More tax breaks for the wealthy. More repeals of consumer protections.
I can’t let that happen, and I know you’re committed to making sure it doesn’t either.
That means we cannot take this race or any of our organizing work to elect Democrats up and down the ballot for granted. We need to really invest in running a grassroots campaign that meets people where they are, just like I did all week long.
So if you are in this fight with me, I need to ask:

As you already know, I’m not taking a dime from any PACs or corporations. I’m accountable only to the people, and it makes your support that much more important.
