URGENT ACTION NEEDED: Tell the U.S. Treasury to STOP supporting fossil fuel disasters abroad!
The Earth is baking, Friend. This summer was the hottest ever recorded. We saw unprecedented wildfires, we’ve seen catastrophic floods. Greedy fossil fuel companies are driving us toward apocalypse – but they’re not doing it alone.
Just days after being sworn into office President Biden directed the Department of Treasury to “promote ending international financing of carbon-intensive fossil fuel-based energy.” Translation: stop funding fossil fuels abroad. But the Treasury has voted to support nearly $400 MILLION in financing for gas projects at the World Bank Group since then, contradicting its own policies. Please, Friend, sign the petition demanding the U.S. Treasury END support for fossil gas projects that are DESTROYING our planet!
The U.S. is the largest shareholder at the World Bank Group. That means the decisions our Treasury makes can have cascading impacts, for good or for worse. Continuing to support fossil fuel projects gives the signal to other shareholders to do so as well. Opposing them could start a global shift. That’s why this is so important.
Friends of the Earth has just released a report detailing the U.S. Treasury’s violations of their own guidance on supporting fossil fuels. They’re nervous, Friend. They know we’ve caught them, which means RIGHT NOW is the time where pressure from environmentalists like you can make the biggest difference. We need 1,289 more signatures by MIDNIGHT TONIGHT to hit our goal. Send your message to U.S. Treasury right now and help STOP fossil fuel projects around the globe!
Standing with you,
Luisa Abbot Galvao
