One month ago, we got the decision from Judge Hanen that we’d been anticipating for months — and it was about as bad as we expected, team.
Judge Hanen ruled against DACA and doubled down on his decision to halt new applications — leaving hundreds of thousands of immigrant youth in limbo.
The case will likely head to the Supreme Court next, and the only thing we know for certain is we’ll need to fight like hell to keep DACA protections in place.
But DACA was never enough. It left out millions of undocumented folks who weren’t eligible for DACA, and the protections afforded never went far enough (proven by the fact that they are vulnerable to attacks from right-wing politicians and judges!)
That’s why there’s now a greater urgency for a true and expansive pathway to citizenship. Years of Congressional inaction and broken promises have led to this moment. Biden and Congress cannot wait any longer and must act NOW to permanently protect millions of people, not just DACA recipients or immigrant youth, facing the threat of deportation.
