Gov. Justice, Victoria Yeager celebrate completion of Charles Chuck Yeager Bridge project, 76th anniversary of breaking the sound barrier

Gov. Jim Justice celebrated the completion of a new gold and blue paint scheme on the Charles Chuck Yeager Bridge in Kanawha City while also commemorating the 76th anniversary of Yeager’s historic sound barrier breaking on October 14, 1947.

The ceremony was highlighted by a flyover of a World War II era P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft, the type Yeager flew during his time in the U.S. Army Air Force in the war.

The Governor was joined by Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston, West Virginia Parkways Authority Executive Director Jeff Miller, and Victoria Yeager, wife of deceased Brig. Gen. Chuck Yeager, during the event.

"We truly owe so much to Chuck Yeager and his family," Gov. Justice said. "I was blessed to meet him a few times, and his courage, intelligence, and grit were remarkable. Not only that, but he's from West Virginia. We owe everything we have in life to this great man. We will always remember the Yeager family and Chuck's accomplishments."

Gov. Justice announces new bridge project in Monongalia County to enhance economic growth, road safety

Gov. Justice announced a new bridge project connecting the Morgantown Industrial Park with US 119 and Interstate 68 by crossing the Mon River, which will improve access to the park and prioritize community safety.

With the previously announced expansion ([link removed]) of Mountaintop Beverage, an estimated 400 trucks a day will be traveling to the industrial park. This bridge will alleviate any additional traffic congestion by diverting large trucks away from River Road and the community of Westover.

"We're committed to building this important bridge over the Mon River to provide the necessary level of access for this incredible industrial park," Gov. Justice said. "We've got to have additional entry for these hundreds of trucks, because we can't have them going through the middle of Westover every single day. We are working to get the interchange to Harmony Grove completed as soon as possible, but while the Feds take their time, we are making things happen right now. Come Spring of 2024, we'll be going full speed with this new bridge."

Gov. Justice announces fall trout stockings and return of Monster Trout Contest

Gov. Justice announced that the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will begin fall trout stockings during the weeks of Oct. 16 and Oct. 23. The state’s second annual Monster Trout Contest will also return during the same time.

During these two weeks, the WVDNR will stock more than 40,000 pounds of trophy-size and monster trout at 43 lakes and streams around the state. Of that total, 35,000 pounds of trout weighing 1-2 pounds and 6,500 pounds of monster trout weighing 3-6 pounds will be stocked. Out of the monster trout, five fish will have a tag that can be redeemed for a grand prize.

"This is one of the best announcements of the year as we stock our lakes and streams, and we have created an exciting element by adding the Monster Trout Contest," Gov. Justice said. "This also provides an excellent opportunity for all of our anglers to catch fish and potentially win some great, great prizes. So, gear up and get out there during this amazing time of year.”

Gov. Justice announces $3.5 million grant award to Mylan Park Foundation for transformative sports development project

Gov. Justice announced a $3.5 million grant from the Water Development Authority to the Mylan Park Foundation to support a transformative sports development project. This announcement was made during a special presentation at Mylan Park.

The Mylan Park Foundation has set forth a vision to enhance the Mylan Park SportsPlex, positioning Mylan Park as a premier national sports and recreational destination.

With an estimated annual economic impact of $9 million, this project is expected to foster job growth and private investment in the tourism sector.

"This grant will bolster the sports infrastructure in North Central West Virginia and contribute to economic development through tourism and job creation,” Gov. Justice said. “The Mylan Park SportsPlex will become a magnet for athletes, families, and tourists from across the nation, further solidifying West Virginia's position on the sports tourism map."

Gov. Justice announces partnership with NBC Sports Next and GolfNow to offer online tee time booking at WV State Parks

Gov. Justice announced that golfers are now able to book tee times at West Virginia state park golf courses thanks to a new partnership with NBC Sports Next and GolfNow.

State Park golf courses participating in this exciting new partnership include Cacapon Resort State Park's 18-hole Robert Trent Jones course in Berkeley Springs, Canaan Valley Resort State Park's 18-hole Geoffrey Cornish course in Davis, Pipestem Resort State Park's 18-hole Geoffrey Cornish course near Princeton and Twin Falls Resort State Park's 18-hole Geoffrey Cornish designed course in Mullens.

“As a lifelong golfer myself, I am incredibly excited to announce this partnership with GolfNow,” Gov. Justice said. “Our state parks are one of our state’s most valued treasures and I’m excited that we now have a new way to attract golfers from around the country to come and experience all of the beauty and goodness our great state has to offer. I want to thank our Department of Tourism and DNR for working hard everyday to continue making our State Parks the best they can be.”

As part of the partnership between State Parks and GolfNow, golfers will now be able to directly book tee times at Cacapon, Canaan Valley, Pipestem and Twin Falls through the GolfNow website and app.
